Enabling iCloud
iA Writer for Mac includes native integration for iCloud. If iCloud Drive is enabled on your Mac, iA Writer will automatically use this as the default storage location, giving you the ease and security you’ve come to expect from iCloud.
If you are not already using iCloud or need to enable iA Writer for iCloud Drive, you can do so by:
Launching System Preferences
Navigate to Apple ID → iCloud Drive (ensure this is checked) → Options…
Check box next to iA Writer
Other Cloud Providers
iA Writer for Mac supports the addition of basically any folder you can locate in Finder. You can add a cloud storage folder as a Location in iA Writer in one of three ways:
Drag and Drop from Finder window to Locations pane in iA Writer
Hover over Locations (iA Writer Library) and press the + button
Use the Add Locations... function found in the Go menu

Enabling iCloud
iA Writer for iOS includes native integration for iCloud.
If iCloud Drive is enabled on your iPhone, iA Writer will automatically use this as the default storage location, giving you the ease and security you’ve come to expect from iCloud.
If you are not already using iCloud or need to enable iA Writer for iCloud Drive, please follow these steps:
Launch iOS Settings
Go to: iOS Settings App → Apple ID, iCloud, Media & Purchases → iCloud → iCloud Drive
Enable iCloud drive (toggle switch to ON)
iOS 16: Go back one screen and select Show All, then scroll down to display iA Writer iOS 15 or lower: Scroll down to display iA Writer
Enable iA Writer (toggle switch to ON)
Dropbox
As of May, 2024 Dropbox has updated their app to implement a fully-featured iOS Files integration. Provided you’re running the latest available version of the Dropbox app, you should be able to add Dropbox folders in Writer.
Here’s how:
Navigate to top level of the Library
Select Edit
Select Add Location…
Navigate to desired Dropbox folder
Click Open

iA Writer for iOS supports adding Locations to the Library provided the full folder can be accessed via the iOS Files API. Despite Apple’s best intentions, many major file storage providers (FSP) still do not support this functionality (as of May 2024).
Using the Open… function in the Library, you can quickly access and work on individual documents.

iA Writer for Android offers the Dropbox and Google Drive services for storing your data in the cloud.
Dropbox
Effortlessly sync your documents using Dropbox. As long as you have an internet connection, any documents stored in Dropbox will be synced automatically.
To link your Dropbox account: in the Library long press Dropbox to connect the location.
You can disconnect it anytime with a long press on the cloud storage provider.
Google Drive
iA Writer for Android supports linking Google Drive in the same intuitive manner as Dropbox.

Here is a quick look at storage providers compatible with iA Writer for Windows, to keep your data in the cloud.
Adding Cloud Storages
Open the left panel (Library) of iA Writer with Ctrl+E. Click on Add to Library at the bottom-left and then choose Add folder to the Library.
This will open a new window displaying all the storage folders available on your PC, including previously installed cloud providers.
OneDrive
The cloud provider from Microsoft is usually automatically installed on your Windows PC and thus, could be your first choice for a cloud provider.
iCloud for Windows
If you are using iA Writer with Apple products, chances are high you are using iCloud as your primary storage.
The good news is you can keep using this storage provider on your PC by downloading iCloud for Windows.
Note that prior versions of iCloud for Windows suffer from a number of compatibility issues. Updating to the most recent version of iCloud for Windows before adding iCloud folders to Writer is highly recommended. You can find the most recent version here: https://support.apple.com/HT204283
Dropbox
Effortlessly sync your documents using Dropbox. As long as you have an internet connection, any documents stored in Dropbox will be synced automatically.
Google Drive
iA Writer for Windows supports linking Google Drive in the same intuitive manner as Dropbox.

An internet connection is required to access or synchronize files stored in cloud locations. Please ensure that your device has a proper internet connection.
