Preview
If you want to see what the formatting of your text looks like, you just have to enable the Preview mode: it will open a panel either side by side with the Editor, or in full screen, as you wish.
Reveal and Conceal Preview
You can open and close Preview in 3 different ways:
Open Preview | Close Preview |
---|---|
Swipe to the left with one finger | Swipe to the right with one finger |
Click the right-most button in the top-right of the title bar | Same |
Use the keyboard shortcut ⌘ R | Same |
Modify the rendering of Preview

Preview can appear as half of the screen side by side with the Editor or in full screen. At full width, you can hide the Editor completely for an ideal reading environment, while half width is often used by writers who want to keep track of the formatting as they go.
You can select between Split and Full Preview via the Toolbar with the “template” button and modify the font and layout of the document by selecting a template.
You can choose between Web mode or PDF mode. You have more formatting options available in PDF mode via Preferences → Templates.
In the Web mode, you can invert the colors to mark the difference between the Editor and Preview.
Export
The “share” button shows available export options as well as Print and Copy (Regular/ Formatted/ HTML/ Markdown).
Preview determines what Export will look like. In the case of PDF, the currently selected typography in the Preview will be used.
You can change the appearance of your export by selecting another template.
The toolbar will be always visible or hide when you start scrolling —scroll up to show them again— as per what you choose in Settings → Interface → Toolbars.
