How many installs do I get with a license key?

Each key allows you to install iA Writer for Windows on two (2) separate machines. If you ever upgrade your hardware you can send us an email and we can refresh the key so you can use it again.

Can I purchase a copy of iA Writer for Windows for a friend?

Yes! While you can download the trial from our website, our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders of iA Writer for Windows. Paddle provides all customer service inquiries and handles returns. You can access a checkout online from here.

I purchased iA Writer for Mac before. Is the Windows version free for me?

It is a separate purchase, in the same way the iOS and Mac versions are distributed.

Is there a 32bit version?

We do not currently offer a 32bit version of iA Writer for Windows. Sorry about this.

How can I sync my documents with my other devices?

iA Writer for Windows allows you to open and edit any plain text files on your PC. It is agnostic to any cloud service you wish to use, so we recommend using whatever suits your setup best. iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive all offer client apps for PC which you can use to keep your documents in sync with your other devices.

I want to make iA Writer the default to open .md files

This can be done in Windows’ Settings. From inside Settings, choose “Apps” → “Default Apps” → “Choose default apps by file type”. Then scroll to the .md filetype and assign iA Writer.

Can I add a different dictionary for the spell checker?

Yes! iA Writer for Windows uses hunspell dictionaries which can be found all over the web. Copying .dic and .aff language files (pair) into the Dictionaries folder in iA Writer’s installation directory will make that dictionary available in iA Writer. For instructions please see here

My menus pop up backwards, opening on the left instead of the right. How do I fix this?

If you have a touch-capable screen, Windows defaults to displaying menus popping up on the left so they are not occluded by a tapping right hand. If you wish to have them appear on the right instead, you can modify your Windows 10 tablet settings.
